Dish Network’s new satellite fails to reach the orbit

Dish Network effort to compete with DirecTV in high-definition expansion failed last week as AMC-14, new satellite failed to reach the orbit. Dish Network was leasing The AMC-14 satellite to use it for the expansion of its high-definition offerings. This failure will have a huge impact on its 100 national high-definition channels by the end year 2008 expansion plan.

Smithsonian Channel reaches carriage deal with RCN Corp.

After reaching carriage agreement with Verizon FiOS TV and Charter Communications last month, the Smithsonian Channel has signed a carriage deal with RCN Corp. on 11th Match. RCN Corp will distribute the high-definition version of the channel, with this agreement the channel will be available to 22.5 million homes in The U.S. Earlier the channel had a carriage deal only with the leading satellite TV provider DirecTV
